Situated on the shore of the lake in Battersea Park, London, this structure is a minimalist bird hide commissioned for Architecture Week in 2007 in which suspended bands of acrylic tubes distort the shapes of bird watchers and reflect the leaves on the trees above. PVC strip curtains, more usually found covering warehouse loading bay doors, were woven around acrylic tubes in the fashion of a sushi mat to form the walls of the hide. The acrylic tubes were then suspended between steel posts which in turn were sunk into the ground. 4mm diameter carbon fibre rods were used to lock the acrylic tubes into their required curves.
